Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre at Baysgarth School is changing. It is committed to change to adapt to the needs and requirements of the school and the local community. The centre has recently been equipped with an interactive white board which, in conjunction with the twenty computer stations already in place, allows classes to enjoy access to a wider variety of resources.
We are constantly creating relationships with services within the local community and affiliations with reading support groups. One such relationship has been developed with the Barton Library, which also run a mobile library to surrounding villages. We would like to arrange for all students to join the library service and enjoy free access to the wide variety of books and online reference resources. For more information on the library service visit their web site www.northlincs.gov.uk/libraries. The LRC will in the future look to offer extended services to the community which may include Adult Education, Media Centre and ALAN (Adult Literacy and Numeracy) testing.
The LRC has an obligation to the students, staff and wider community to provide information and pathways to all internal and extended services, events, activities, and support groups. There is now a dedicated area within the LRC for this information. If any groups, services, or organisers of local events would benefit from displaying a poster in the LRC please send it to us.
The LRC is the process of transferring all the stock in the LRC to an electronics library system. This will allow the students to locate books within the LRC for specific subjects or projects across the curriculum from a computer station. The Eclipse system has a wide variety of search tools and other facilities to improve the service offered by the LRC.
We are currently creating a quiet study area to allow students to carry out research individually or in small groups. This area will provide direct access to reference books and non-fiction texts without having the distraction of the computer stations. This will encourage wider knowledge of texts and improve research skills.
