KS5 Physical Education
A range of teaching and learning styles is used, including teacher-led work,
discussion and assignments in the theory sessions. In the practical section
of the course, there will be individual, pair and small group work.
Career prospects:
Very applicable to teaching, coaching, leisure and sport management, physiotherapy and the range of courses in Higher Education covering sports sciences.AS and A2
We follow the OCR specifications.Ideally, students should have at least grade C in GCSE Physical Education. Biology and English at grade C are also required. A clear interest in sport and physical education is required. The student should be a competent sportsman/woman. An ability in Athletics is an advantage.
AS Module 1: Application of Physiology and Physiological Knowledge to improve performance
Assessment: 90 minutes.
40% 0f AS, 20% of A2.
AS Module 2: Contemporary Studies in Physical Education
Assessment: 75 minutes.
30% of AS, 15% of A2
AS Module 3: Performance and its improvement through critical analysis of practical techniques
Assessment: Students must produce a Personal Performance
Portfolio, outlining practical performance in a sport of their choice through
Year 12.
30% of AS, 15% of A2.

A2 Module 5: Exercise and sport physiology and the integration of knowledge of principles and concepts across different areas of Physical Education
Students must integrate their knowledge in all the modules studied to produce a written assessment.Assessment: 90 minutes

A3 Module 6: The improvement of effective performance and critical evaluation of the practical activities with synoptic assessment
Assessment: Candidates are assessed in two activities. The assessment is divided and weighted as follows
- The selection, application and performance of skills in an open environment (Effective Performance)
- Evaluation and appreciation of performance through observation and synoptic knowledge (Oral test)
