Curriculum Content
Under the National Curriculum we are required to teach four Attainment Targets (ATs):AT1 Using and applying Mathematics;
AT2 Number & Algebra;
AT3 Shape, space and measures;
AT4 Handling data.
Resources
Text books are used that closely follow the National Curriculum orders. Pupils work from books which are matched to their ability but which also challenge them to make progress. Framework Maths is the major text book used throughout Key Stage 3.Your child will also use computer programs from time to time.
Teaching Methods
A variety of methods is used in this Faculty, including mental and oral starts and whole-class sessions. These methods are part of the Key Stage 3 National Strategy Framework for teaching Mathematics in Years 7, 8 and 9. Work is covered predominantly by teacher-led lessons, using a structured course book. Pupils also do investigative and mental Mathematics.Skills and Knowledge
The aims of the course are to enable your child to- become numerate;
- apply the Mathematics learnt to solving problems both in Mathematics and in other subjects;
- present the solutions in the language of Mathematics, in written work, diagrams and orally;
- appreciate the power of Mathematics;
- stimulate interest and a desire to find out.
