We follow the AQA specifications which offers an interesting and enjoyable
course, which

Students will benefit from specialised teaching and a range of faculty-produced support materials.
AS Module 1: Introduction to Language and Literature Study
This module introduces you to a range of literary and non-literary texts. At the start of the course you will be presented with a small anthology of literary and non-literary material on the theme of “Education.” The central text of the anthology is a collection of poems by William Wordsworth.Assessment
120 minutes. Written paper. You will be required to answer two questions.
You will be allowed to take the anthology into the examination.
AS Module 2: The Changing Language of Literature
This module involves the study of two texts, separated by at least 100 years. You focus on- how language changes over time
- how different authors treat similar themes
The texts studied are “The Scarlet Letter” and “The Color Purple.”
Assessment
90 minutes. Written paper. You will answer one question
AS Module 3: Production of Texts
This is a coursework module, which aims to develop your expertise as writers, by requiring you to write for different audiences and purposes, such as short story or radio script. In addition you will submit a commentary where you will analyse and review your writing.Assessment
By the production of the coursework folder. The first section should be between
1500 and 3000 words and the commentary approximately 1000 words.
A2 Module 4: Text Transformation
This is a coursework module. You will take a literary text of any genre and transform the original work into a different genre. Obviously, there are a large number of possibilities. An example would be working on a thirty minute cartoon version of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”Assessment
By the production of a coursework folder. The folder will contain one or two
pieces of work and a commentary. The total length of the submission should
be between 1500 and 2500 words and the commentary approximately 1500 words.
A2 Module 5: Talk in Life and Literature
This module aims to encourage you to apply your skills and knowledge of literary and linguistic concepts and approaches gained in earlier modules to a focused area of study, that of the spoken language. You will study a variety of transcripts of real-life, spoken situations, examples of dialogue in fiction (unseen texts) and a Shakespeare play.Assessment
120 minutes. Written paper.
There will be one question on the Shakespeare play and one question on unseen
texts.
A2 Module 6: Critical Approaches
This module allows you to show insights gained from a range of texts, both spoken and written, and to show your ability to analyse and comment on the texts.Assessment
150 minutes. Written paper, based upon unseen material and a set of pre-released
unseen material distributed approximately three days before the examination.
