Entry requirement
At least a grade C (preferably B) at GCSE, achieved on the Higher papers. Grade C in Maths and English are an advantage.Teaching methods
These is a blend of lectures, practicals, class discussions, assignments, short essays, comprehension exercises, structured questions, multiple choice questions and topic tests, presentations and ICT work.Assessment
AS can be taken as a stand-alone qualification or as part of the full Advanced GCE course. There are three units of assessment at AS, which count towards A2 and a further three units for A2.AS Module 1: Biology Foundation

Assessment: 1 hour written exam

AS Module 2: Human health and disease
- Introduction to health and disease
- Diet
- Gaseous exchange and exercise
- Smoking and disease
- Infectious diseases
- Immunity
Assessment: 1 hour written exam

AS Module 3: Transport/Experimental skills
- The mammalian transport system
- The mammalian heart
- Transport in multicellular plants
Assessment 1: 45 minutes. Written exam
20% of AS, 10% of A2
Assessment 2: Coursework or practical examination 1
During the year or by 90 minute exam.

A2 Module 4: Central concepts
- Energy and respiration
- Photosynthesis
- Populations and interactions
- Meiosis, genetics and gene control
- Classification. selection and evolution
- Control, co-ordination and homeostasis
With field trip
