There are many reasons for continuing education when you have completed your GCSE examinations.
- Education is never a waste of time. Whatever route you choose, the experiences you gain will influence you all your life, affecting your employment, your leisure interests, your confidence and your ability to cope with, and control, your own life.
- If you have chosen, or are interested in a career for which the entry age is 17+ (e.g. nursing or the Armed Forces) post 16 education offers you a chance to develop further, both personally and intellectually, so that you will be a more mature person and better prepared to start your training. Employers often favour someone who has spent some time in post-compulsory education. AS levels and GNVQ now give you a chance to gain an extra qualification within one year.
- Post-compulsory education is the most convenient way of entering Higher Education.
Your choice of Baysgarth
- Very few young people these days end their education at the age of 16. For the vast majority of Year 11 students the decision to be made is not "Shall I carry on with my education?" but "What sort of education do I now need?" For some, this is an easy question to answer: for others the choices are complicated and confusing.
- We live in a competitive world. You are likely to be judged - at least in the first place - by what you have achieved at school. Here are two questions to ask yourself about your future education:
"What do I need to learn next?" and "What will I have to show for my time?"
The first question should lead you to the right courses: the second question to the right qualifications.
- With jobs more difficult to come by, qualifications are even more important than in the past. They cannot guarantee you the job you want - but not having them can easily rule you out. Most - but not all - qualifications depend on examinations. (Many qualities cannot be tested by examination and some courses at last are beginning to recognise this.) So - try to judge what you are capable of, and then aim for the top!
- If you are a Baysgarth pupil, you already know you will probably be considering staying on. If you are not here already, the decision is much harder - so do make sure you find out all you need to know. Read the prospectus, come along and ask us all your questions and, most important of all, talk with Sixth Formers who are already here.
- You know the choice you are making now will be vital to your future career. You owe it to yourself to make the right decision.
- You should be looking for something special in the next two years. We hope this prospectus will help you find it.
