Key Stage 5 Systems and Control

The emphasis of the course is on the application of knowledge with learning taking place through practical activities producing multiple solutions to problems.

Systems and Control

Unit 1 (AS-level):
Materials, Components and Applications

In this examination unit you will be given opportunities to develop your knowledge and understanding of issues which influence applications.

Unit 2 (AS-level):
Learning Through Designing and Making

In this unit you are given the opportunity to apply the skills to produce a design portfolio and a manufactured outcome.

Systems and Control

Unit 3 (A2-level):
Design and Manufacture

In this examination unit you will develop your knowledge and understanding design and manufacturing practices related to systems and control.

Unit 4 (A2-level):
Design and Making Practice

In this unit you are to produce a detailed deisgn folder and a manfactured outcome.


System and Control encourages appreciation of the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing with a systems focus of electronics, pneumatics and computer control. This provides skills and knowledge which can be used in range of careers.
