Key Stage 4 Religious Studies - (Full Course)

Curriculum Content

Religious Studies

The GCSE Full Course comprises of 10 units of study:

  1. Issues of love, marriage and divorce
  2. Issues of justice and equality
  3. Issues about God, life and death
  4. Issues about personal and cooperate identity
  5. Exploring creation and our world
  6. Issues of War, violence and peace
  7. Issues of medical ethics and the Sanctity of life
  8. Issues of one’s faith
  9. Issues of law and order
  10. Issues of suffering and the concept of evil

These units will be approached from the religions of Christianity and Islam. Mrs Gardner will teach this course.

Teaching Methods

This course deals with sensitive matters concerning religious belief and practice. Therefore, the sharing of students' ideas and opinions is greatly encouraged. A wide variety of learning activities are employed.

Resources

Students have access to an up-to-date collection of textbooks and other published materials written to meet the requirements of Key Stage 4 Religious Studies. Video material, Information and Communication Technology, CD ROM’s and a library of religious artefacts help with the delivery of this course. Links have also been established with the local denominations of Christianity. Appropriate trips and visitors will also be arranged.

Skills and Knowledge

The course will develop in pupils:

  1. The ability to acquire and develop knowledge and develop understanding of the beliefs, values and traditions of religion.
  2. The ability to consider the influence of the beliefs, values and traditions associated with religion.
  3. The ability to consider religious and other responses to moral issues.
  4. The ability to identify, investigate and respond to fundamental questions of life raised by religious and human experience.

 

KS4 Religious Studies - (Short Course)

Curriculum Content

The GCSE Shortl Course comprises of 5 units of study:

  1. Issues of love, marriage and divorce
  2. Issues of justice and equality
  3. Issues about God, life and death
  4. Issues about personal and cooperate identity
  5. Exploring creation and our world

These units will be approached from the religions of Christianity and Islam. It is hoped that all our pupils will be entered for the final examination. Mrs Gardner and Mrs Smith-Samuels will teach this course.

Assessment

All students will be entered for the Religious Studies Short Course Option A WJEC G.C.S.E Specification B. The Short Course consists of one examination paper accounting for 100% of the total marks.
