Key Stage 5 Performance Studies
The OCR specification aims to use a multi-disciplinary approach to developing imagination, sensitivity and artistic knowledge in Dance, Drama and Music and study approaches to performance that unite them.
Candidates will
- devise original pieces of work in Dance, Drama and/or Music and perform existing repertoire
- study practitioners and genres in social, historical and cultural context
- evaluate own performance work in this wider context
- gain an understanding of performance theory and develop an ability to discuss practical work using appropriate technical and expressive language

- Performance repertoire: work of choreographers, composers and playwrights
- Performance styles and genres in context
- Performance skills in Dance, drama and Music and making links
- Performance processes: approaches to devising performance material for a given time, situation and audience
Unit 2556: The Language of Performing Arts
Coursework – a written commentary on practical work. 2000 –3000

Unit 2557: Contextual Studies 1
A choice of questions on two set areas
Theory in two Art forms from Dance, Drama or Music. Practical and written
examination based on the study of John Godber, Bertolt Bracht or Christopher
Bruce.
30% of AS, 15% of A2
Unit 2558: Performance Realisation
Links with work studied in Unit 2557. Candidates perform two pieces of work
in the areas studied for that unit.
Visiting examination.
40% of AS, 20% of A2
Unit 2559: Community Performance Project
A coursework component. Written commentary on a piece of original performance
work. 3000 words.
15% of A2
Unit 2560: Contextual Studies
Written examination.
15% of A2
Unit 2561: Student evised Performance
Working in groups of 3 – 7, candidates devise an original piece of performance
work.
Visiting examination.
