Text books are used that closely follow the National Curriculum. When working from textbooks pupils use books which are matched to their ability but which also challenge them to make progress. Your child will also use computer programs and interactive whiteboards during lesson.

Teaching Methods

A variety of teaching methods are used in this Faculty, including mental and oral starts and whole-class sessions. These methods are part of the Key Stage 3 National Strategy Framework for teaching. A range of classroom activities are used to stimulate learners and provide an opportunity for thought and reflection.

Skills and Knowledge

The aims of the course are to enable your child to:

  1. become numerate;
  2. apply the Mathematics learnt to solving problems both in Mathematics and in other subjects;
  3. present the solutions in the language of Mathematics, in written work, diagrams and orally;
  4. appreciate the power of Mathematics;
  5. stimulate interest and a desire to find out.

The skills your child will learn include: communication, observation and collection of data, measurement, accuracy, data handling, computation – mental, written and justify calculation – reason and decision making.
