Key Stage 4 BTEC Engineering

BTEC Engineering is a level 2 course and is equivalent to GCSE grades A*-C level.

Pupils taking this qualification are well-equipped to enter further education or recruitment into general manufacturing, product design, production planning, production control or project management.

I enjoy problem solving, designing with computers, thinking about the properties and application of metals and trying to improve the function of a design.

Curriculum Content

The aim of the course is for candidates to fully understand the industrial world of making products.

Resources

This course is delivered through a number of units and using a range of computer aided design software plus practical skills using a range of materials.

Skills and Knowledge

The work done in will explore and experience design and technology and how it relates to design of products using a range of CAD software.

Assessment

Pupils will study units of work:

  • Designing products for manufacture (portfolio) – this unit deals with design using CAD. It considers the production requirements, constraints and the presentation of design solutions.
  • Making and manufacturing products (portfolio and products) – this unit deals with production planning and scheduling, the use of manufacturing equipment, batch processing, and quality control.
  • To be confirmed by the Examination board (end of year examination) – this is the written examination.
