4 Apr 2008 - Refinery Donation Benefit to Pupils
Bookworms at Barton-Upon-Humber's Baysgarth School are benefiting from a donation from Total UK's Lindsey Oil Refinery (LOR).
Human resources manager Darren Lacey, has just handed over books with a business and scientific bias. One teacher who has already been making use of the 50 new books is business studies teacher Kristina Scott.
"They have been used mainly by A-level students and they are really good for course work," she said.
"Girls taking business studies usually outperform the boys, so some of the books have been chosen to encourage the boys in their studies."
Mr Lacey said the current donation was not the first time LOR had supported the school.
"The last time we supported Baysgarth we gave them £3,000 towards the successful technology college status bid," he said.
"We are delighted this money is being used to help children with science and their studies.
"As with any big business we are always looking at ways of improving links with the community."
Baysgarth headteacher Colin Saywell added: "We are extremely grateful to Total UK at LOR for the donation they have given to the school.
"The company has been a good supporter of the school and we do appreciate this very generous gesture."
