A review of the recent sporting achievements.
Rugby
Our Y9 boys’ team became District Rugby Champions for the 3rd consecutive year, conceding only one try on the way to the final before winning 35-0.
Football
The Y9 boys’ football team have reached the District Cup semi-final also for the third year in a row – the match has yet to be played at the time of writing. Not to be out-done, the Y7 boys’ football team have also reached the District Plate semi final.
Under the guidance of their captain, Jasmine McNaught, and support from Mrs Charge, we are delighted to announce that our Y10 Girls’ Football team are once again District Champions - for the 4th time running.
Three lucky students, Sophie Bartup, Sam Birkitt and Bradley Graves, together with Mr Sprakes, were given a tour of the Sunderland ground. They also enjoyed a training session with Darren Bent (England forward), picking up some valuable tips from one of the country’s top sports personalities. We look forward to seeing them putting their training into practice in some of their forthcoming games.
Badminton
Our KS4 (Y10 and 11) girls’ badminton team were crowned Baysgarth Sporting Partnership champions, after which they progressed to District Champions, before finishing 3rd in the county, which covers the whole of Humberside – an excellent achievement.
Night Pilot
The World Challenge Girls’ and boys’ Night Pilot teams braved freezing temperatures whilst navigating a course around the woods near Elsham. They came away with a prize.
Netball
Our U13 team came 3rd in the District Netball Competition. This was an excellent achievement by the Y8 team, due in no small part to the commitment and effort they have shown throughout the year.
Going one better, our Y10 team in the U15 District Netball Tournament came 2nd - the best performance from one of our netball teams for a long time! Hopefully we can achieve first next time.
Volleyball
Our volleyball team went to play against St Mary’s Sports College in Hull, whose team have two England volleyball players, narrowly losing by two points. The sixth form volleyball team will be holding taster sessions with students and Chinese visitors after the Easter holidays.
10-Pin Bowling
On an individual note, we are delighted to report that Sam Leech (Y10) has been selected to represent England at 10-pin Bowling.
